Steamed Tofu with Shrimp Paste
EASY 20 MINUTES
• 1 14 oz block of soft tofu
• 8 oz shrimp
• 1 bundle of green onion (diced) or cilantro (chopped)
• 1-2 red chilli pepper (chopped) — optional
• 1 tsp cooking wine
• 1 tsp cornstarch
• ¼ tsp ground pepper
• ¼ tsp sugar
• ¼ tsp salt
• 2 tbsp light soy sauce
• 2 tbsp cooking oil
• 1 tsp sugar
1 Slice tofu into 12 blocks (about ½ inch thick) and arrange onto a serving plate.
2 Wash shrimps, remove vein and smash into paste. Marinate with seasonings for 5 minutes.
3 Stir and mix the shrimp paste for about 2 minutes. Divide shrimp paste into 12 equal portions.
4 Place shrimp paste on top of tofu blocks.
5 Boil 6 cups of water in a pot. Steam on high heat for 5 minutes.
6 Mix 2 tbsp soy sauce with 1 tsp sugar until sugar dissolves.
7 While steaming, heat up 2 tbsp cooking oil in a pan. Set aside for later use.
8 Add green onions or cilantro and red chillies on top of tofu when cooked. Drain extra water from the tofu dish.
9 Pour hot cooked oil on tofu, season with soy sauce mixture. Dish up. Serve hot.
